19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since that period of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
